Rehearse the answers, not just the vocabulary
Reading lists of interview phrases does not help when the question arrives. What helps is having said your answer to “Tell me about yourself” out loud five times, with the grammar fixed on the second attempt and the phrasing smoothed on the third. Tips for interview rehearsal
- Prepare three stories — a success, a problem you solved, a mistake you learned from — and tell each one twice.
- Answer in the past tense deliberately; it is where most interview corrections happen.
- Ask the tutor to be more demanding on the second run: follow-up questions, “why”, “give me an example”.
- Repeat every better sentence out loud; those are the lines you will actually use.
- Rehearse the small talk at the start too — it sets your confidence for the rest.

Steps

- Set the scene
Start a session and say: “You are the hiring manager interviewing me for a marketing role. Ask me typical interview questions one at a time.”
- Answer the first question out loud
Take “Tell me about yourself” in three or four sentences. Speak as you would in the room; do not read.
- Take the correction and repeat
The tutor reacts, gives a better version if needed — with the reason in your language — and asks the next question. Say the better version before you move on.
- Work through your three stories
A success, a problem you solved, a lesson learned. Ask for follow-up questions so you practise going deeper.
- End and keep the better sentences
Read the report. The better sentences are your script; read them aloud once more, and rehearse again tomorrow.

Can the tutor play a specific interviewer?
Describe the role and company type at the start of the session and the tutor will keep asking relevant questions. It stays flexible rather than following a fixed script.
How long before the interview should I start?
A week of short daily rehearsals is realistic. Premium (10 minutes a day) fits a full round of questions; the free 3 minutes covers one or two answers a day.
