How to practice English speaking alone

No partner, no class, no one to talk to — that is the situation most learners are in most of the time. This guide shows how to practise English speaking alone in a way that still gives you feedback, using your phone and a few minutes a day.

Why talking to yourself is not enough

Reading aloud and narrating your day in English are better than silence, but they share a flaw: nobody answers and nobody corrects. You repeat the same mistakes with more confidence. The two ingredients that make solo practice work are a partner that replies — so you have to understand and respond, not just produce — and a correction loop that catches the sentence you got wrong while it is still in your mouth.

Tips for solo sessions that pay off

  • Talk about your actual life. Real content produces the vocabulary you actually need.
  • Speak in full sentences even when a word would do. Production is the point.
  • Repeat every “Better:” sentence out loud twice before answering the follow-up question.
  • Keep sessions short and daily. Three minutes every day beats thirty on Sunday.
  • Read the better sentences from your report aloud once after you end.

What you end up with

After a week you will have seven short conversations, seven reports, and a clear picture of your two or three recurring mistakes — plus a growing list of better sentences you have already said correctly. That is more spoken English than most learners produce in a month of classes.

Steps

In Talkexa the whole loop takes one tap and a few minutes.

  1. Set your language and level

When you sign up, choose the language you speak and English as the language to practise, then pick beginner, intermediate or advanced. Corrections will be explained in your language.

  2. Tap Speak and say something real

Describe your morning, a task at work or a plan for the weekend. Do not prepare; the goal is to produce sentences in real time.

  3. Listen to the reply and the correction

The tutor answers out loud, and if your line needed it, includes a better version and a one-line reason in your language. Tap replay if you want to hear it again.

  4. Repeat the better version, then answer

Say the corrected sentence out loud, then answer the tutor’s follow-up question. This is the correction loop a partner would give you.

  5. End and read your report

Tap End. Read the grammar corrections, vocabulary improvements and better sentences, and note the recommendation for tomorrow.
