English pronunciation practice

English pronunciation practice that starts with actually opening your mouth.

You cannot improve pronunciation silently. Talkexa gets you speaking English out loud in real conversations, gives you a natural spoken model to listen to and replay, and corrects the grammar and phrasing of what you said — so you practise saying good sentences, not just recognising them.

Talkexa 1.4 preview: English conversation with a labelled Tap to speak button

A short text to practise English pronunciation

Read this example aloud: “I usually walk to work. On rainy days, I take the bus. Tomorrow I am meeting a friend for lunch.” Pause after each sentence. Notice which words are hard to say, then listen to a spoken reply from your tutor and try again.

Use the text as a starting point for a conversation: tell the tutor how you travel to work or what you plan to do tomorrow. Talkexa can help you practise speaking and review phrasing, but its transcription is not a validated pronunciation score.

What Talkexa does for pronunciation — honestly

Let us be precise, because many apps are not. Talkexa does not score your pronunciation sound by sound or grade your accent. What it does is make you speak: you talk, the app transcribes what you said, and the tutor replies out loud in natural English. When your sentence needs it, the reply includes a better version and a short reason in your own language. You can replay any tutor line and repeat it.

That gives you the three things pronunciation practice needs: a reason to speak, a native-sounding model to imitate, and repetition. What it does not give you is a number. If the transcript shows a different word from the one you meant, that is your signal that the word was not clear — a useful, if indirect, check.

A practical routine

Start a session and talk about your day. When a correction arrives, tap replay on the tutor’s line, then say the better version out loud twice. Answer the follow-up question. At the end, read the better sentences from your report out loud once more. Three minutes a day of this — the free daily allowance — is a real pronunciation habit.

  • Speak in real conversations, not word lists
  • Natural spoken replies to listen to and replay
  • Better versions of your own sentences to repeat
  • Transcript shows what the app heard
  • Corrections for grammar, word choice and phrasing, explained in your language

Why conversation beats drills for most people

Isolated sound drills help with specific problem sounds, and a dedicated pronunciation trainer is the right tool for that. But the pronunciation problem most learners actually have is hesitation: pausing, restarting and mumbling because they are searching for words. Speaking often, in full sentences, with immediate correction, removes that. Talkexa is built for this second problem, and it pairs well with a sound-drill tool if you need one.
